HKA, a global leader in risk mitigation and dispute resolution, faced a complex challenge requiring in-depth delay analysis involving extensive data sets and 3D modelling. They needed to analyse and clarify the specific causes and effects of project delays, a highly specialised task essential to dispute resolution. 

Given the intricate nature of the project and the need to consolidate multiple large data sets into an accessible format, HKA used AJ Digital’s expertise in digital surveying and data integration to help resolve the issue. This followed a recommendation from one of HKA’s technical directors which led the company to partner with AJ Digital, known for their innovative solutions and technical precision in this area.

To address HKA’s requirements, AJ Digital undertook a multifaceted approach to consolidate, visualise, and analyse the data. Key elements of the solution included data integration where AJ Digital was able to meticulously collate various large and disparate data sets, to create a unified database. This approach streamlined the information and prepared it for further analysis.

Using Navisworks software, AJ Digital additionally created a federated 3D model of the project, linking each delayed project element to its corresponding data points. Once this was complete, they conducted a comprehensive delay impact analysis. This included identifying all components affected by initial delays and any resulting downstream effects.

To aid in the interpretation of complex information, AJ Digital further generated a series of visualisations that illustrated the scale and effects of delays in a clear, user-friendly format. This data, along with the visualisations, was presented to HKA and other parties involved in the dispute, enhancing transparency and facilitating a more streamlined dispute resolution process.

As part of the project, AJ Digital’s use of a custom bi-directional plugin also allowed for seamless integration between the database and the federated 3D model, further enhancing HKA’s ability to navigate, analyse and utilise the data effectively.

With AJ Digital’s support, HKA was able to visualise and present the delay analysis data in a way that was clear, concise and accessible. The project’s data was distilled into meaningful insights, which HKA used to communicate the scope and impact of the delays effectively to all stakeholders. This improved clarity was instrumental in supporting HKA’s dispute resolution efforts, providing a clear, data-driven foundation for negotiations and discussions.

In short, this enhanced understanding of complex data sets enabled all stakeholders to comprehend the scale and intricacies of the delays. By providing clear evidence of delay impacts, AJ Digital’s work also ensured smoother, faster communication and resolution. Furthermore, the bi-directional data integration ensured that HKA could revisit and adjust the model as needed throughout the resolution process.
